Malaysia — Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect for 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, met with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, September 7. The two leaders, who share a long-standing friendship, discussed enhancing bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.
This meeting followed Prabowo’s earlier meeting with the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim. During their conversation, Prabowo and Anwar reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the ongoing bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring nations
“Thank you for today’s constructive discussion. I reiterate Indonesia’s commitment to fostering a harmonious and mutually beneficial bilateral defense relationship between our two countries,” Prabowo stated.
During the meeting, Prabowo personally extended an invitation to Anwar to attend his presidential inauguration, scheduled for October in Jakarta.
Anwar expressed his happiness at reuniting with his longtime friend and congratulated Prabowo on his election as Indonesia’s next president.
“Meeting my close friend, Indonesia’s President-elect Prabowo Subianto. I am honored to accept his invitation to the Indonesian presidential inauguration on October 20, 2024, in Jakarta,” Anwar wrote in a caption on his official Instagram account, @anwaribrahim_my.
Regarding bilateral relations, Anwar emphasized his commitment to further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
“The most important thing is our commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between our brotherly nations. We also reaffirm our dedication to reinforcing regional cooperation within ASEAN,” Anwar said. (RR)
