President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto stressed the significance of clean governance and honest leadership in uplifting Muslim-majority countries from poverty and global challenges during the opening of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) in Jakarta. Emphasizing the need for Islamic nations to play a more active role in global affairs to establish a just and prosperous world, he addressed key issues like poverty, corruption, lack of education access, and mismanagement of resources that need internal resolution for progress. The theme of this year’s PUIC, “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience,” was praised by Prabowo as a timely and crucial focus, highlighting the necessity of strong and accountable governance for competitive and resilient nations. He also recalled the achievements of historical Islamic leaders who prioritized their people’s welfare, such as Umar ibn al-Khattab and Mehmed the Conqueror. Furthermore, Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s support for Palestine, urging Muslim nations to take tangible actions to end the suffering of the Palestinian people through impactful initiatives. He emphasized the importance of moving beyond discussions to real actions and assured that Indonesia will always stand with Palestine in their pursuit of justice and freedom.
