President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia visited Saudi Arabia on July 2–3, 2025, with the aim of strengthening cooperation to improve services for Indonesian pilgrims during their Hajj and Umrah journeys. During his visit, he met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah, where he expressed appreciation for the Saudi government’s dedication to serving pilgrims globally, including those from Indonesia.
The discussions emphasized the close partnership between the two countries in ensuring the safety and comfort of Indonesian pilgrims during their religious activities. Both parties agreed to enhance the quality of services for Indonesian pilgrims in upcoming Hajj seasons, highlighting their commitment to ensuring a seamless pilgrimage experience.
Beyond matters related to Hajj, strategic agreements were made to strengthen bilateral relations. The Saudi–Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, led by the Crown Prince and President Prabowo, focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and technology. The bilateral trade between the two countries has been substantial, totaling around USD 31.5 billion in the last five years.
Moreover, agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to boost private sector investment, reaching approximately USD 27 billion. These investments are poised to create employment opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in energy, industrial development, and sustainable technology sectors.
Both leaders underscored the significance of collaboration in the health sector, particularly in addressing the medical requirements of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. They also deliberated on the advancement of the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries, along with enhancing the capacity of the health workforce.
Internationally, President Prabowo and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated their dedication to facilitating peaceful conflict resolutions in the region. They reaffirmed their backing for a two-state solution for Palestine and emphasized the role of international humanitarian organizations in fostering peace and stability.
The visit emphasized the robust and evolving partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia across various domains, showcasing their joint efforts to enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims and deepen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
