Lugano from Switzerland successfully turned the tide to become the champion of the FIBA 3×3 Challenger Jakarta 2025. Despite losing in their first match in Jakarta, Lugano returned home with a big smile on their faces. Lugano emerged as the best after defeating Hangzhou in the final match held at the Plaza Parkir Timur Gelora Bung Karno, Sunday night WIB.
In the final game, Lugano won 21-14. In the pool phase, Lugano was placed in Pool A alongside top seed Miami and the home team representative, Jakarta Mandiri. Lugano started their performance unconvincingly. In the first match in Jakarta, they lost 16-21 to Miami.
Lugano finished in second place in Pool A after defeating Jakarta Mandiri 21-7. As runners-up, Lugano had to face Chongming in the quarterfinals. Lugano managed to end the Chinese representative’s resistance with a score of 21-17.
In the semifinal, Lugano once again showed their strength. Malik Hluchoweckyj and his teammates once again clinched a 21-17 victory. Lugano then gained more confidence in the final match.
While initially trailing 1-4 against Hangzhou in the early stages of the game, Lugano rose to take the lead 8-4 after scoring two consecutive two-point shots. From there, Lugano continued to extend their lead to more than six points against Hangzhou. Lugano even managed to end Hangzhou’s resistance with a score of 21-14 with one minute left.
As the champion of the FIBA 3×3 Challenger Jakarta 2025, Lugano earned the opportunity to compete in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Lausanne 2025.
