PCO Chief Urges North Sumatra to Accelerate Nutrition Service Infrastructure

Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), urged North Sumatra Province to speed up the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program by hastening the construction of more Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs). During his inspection visit to SPPG Cempedak Lobang in Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra, Hasan emphasized the urgent need to respond to the high demand for the MBG Program, especially from communities that have yet to benefit from it. Collaboration between the central government, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), and local leaders is essential to ensure that school children receive free nutritious meals in a timely manner.

Hasan also encouraged regional governments to actively contribute to the development of SPPGs, particularly in disadvantaged areas like 3T regions. Not only is substantial support from local governments crucial in identifying suitable SPPG locations and driving construction efforts, but private sector involvement through public-private partnerships is also emphasized. Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, shared his optimism during the visit, anticipating that 200 SPPGs would soon be operational in the province. With a target of 1,732 SPPGs set by the central government for North Sumatra, progress has already been made with 77 units established and more expected to follow suit.

Bobby highlighted the ongoing efforts at both the provincial and local levels to meet the designated targets, indicating that each regency and municipality should aim to build at least three SPPGs. This commitment from regional governments complements the construction of SPPGs by private partners, ultimately ensuring wider reach and greater impact of the MBG Program. Overall, the collective efforts of government agencies, local leaders, and private stakeholders are crucial in accelerating the provision of free nutritious meals to school children in North Sumatra.
