Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development (Wamendukbangga) Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka highlighted the importance of parents staying informed about their children’s interests and engaging in physical activities together to prevent addiction to games and gadgets. She emphasized the need for parents to continuously learn and upgrade themselves, especially in understanding current online applications as children tend to learn faster. Isyana pointed out that children often seek instant gratification from activities like social media scrolling or online gaming, which can lead to addiction. To address this issue, she suggested engaging children in sports and outdoor activities to stimulate dopamine production in a healthier way.
At a discussion event organized by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in Jakarta, Isyana shared her insights on The Role of Family Development in Welcoming a Golden Indonesia 2045. The Deputy Minister also referenced a program named Ruang Bersama Indonesia (RBI) initiated by Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan. RBI aims to provide a safe and inclusive space for women, children, and communities to empower themselves, learn, play, and nurture creativity. Through RBI, Veronica Tan hopes to offer children access to safe environments for traditional and creative games, sports, and activities, encouraging them to steer clear of gadget addiction.
By promoting physical activities and creating positive spaces for children to engage in various activities, parents and policymakers can help prevent addiction to games and gadgets among the younger generation.
