PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) is scheduled to release a new Hyundai car at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024. This event will take place at ICE BSD City Tangerang from July 18-28, 2024, with one of the cars making its World Premiere debut. This information was revealed by Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of HMID, during a meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday (08/05/2024).
According to Frans, events like GIIAS are always utilized by Hyundai to introduce its new models to the Indonesian market. “There will be a World Premiere, but I can’t reveal the model just yet. Please wait for the official announcement,” said Frans. He explained that the term World Premiere does not necessarily mean that the car is being launched for the first time globally. Instead, the product is designed in Indonesia and tailored for the Indonesian market before being developed for other countries in Southeast Asia (ASEAN).
Frans emphasized that Indonesia is currently the most attractive market in ASEAN, and Hyundai sees the potential in the Indonesian market. This is why they have chosen Indonesia to make an impact in the ASEAN market. He also mentioned that the new product to be showcased at GIIAS 2024 is part of a series of seven new Hyundai cars that will be launched in Indonesia. This is to cater to the Indonesian market, especially during the current economic challenges brought about by factors such as interest rates and foreign exchange rates.
When asked whether the debut product at GIIAS 2024 will be an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle or an electric vehicle (BEV), Frans remained tight-lipped. However, he did hint that the car would have a seating capacity of 5-7 passengers. Despite speculation that the debut model could be the Hyundai Creta facelift 2024, Frans neither confirmed nor denied this possibility.
As for the Hyundai Kona EV 2024, Frans mentioned that HMID has also prepared for the launch of this electric vehicle. While he did not reveal specific details, he hinted that the model had been previously showcased to the public in February 2024. This suggests that the Hyundai Kona Electric 2024 may also be unveiled at GIIAS 2024.
Overall, HMID aims to satisfy the Indonesian market by introducing new models at GIIAS 2024. The company sees Indonesia as a key market in ASEAN and is committed to providing affordable electric vehicle options. The upcoming Hyundai models aim to not only cater to the domestic market but also to be exported to other Southeast Asian countries.
