PT JIO Distribusi Indonesia (JDI), a distributor of Chinese automotive manufacturer Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd. (BAIC), has introduced the BAIC BJ40 Plus and BAIC X55 in Indonesia.

The BAIC BJ40 Plus is a premium SUV with a boxy appearance designed for off-road enthusiasts. On the other hand, the BAIC X55 is a medium-sized SUV that competes with the Chery Omoda 5, emphasizing lifestyle, technology, and performance.

“We are introducing two flagship products from BAIC for the first time in Indonesia, the BAIC BJ40 Plus and BAIC X55. We chose these 2 SUVs based on our strategic analysis and market acceptance,” said Dhani Yahya, Chief Operating Officer of JDI, on Tuesday (14/5/2024).

While the official prices have not been announced yet, Dhani mentioned that the BAIC X55 will be priced starting from Rp400 million, and the BAIC BJ40 Plus will be priced around Rp700 million.

Both vehicles are now available for pre-order, with dealerships set to open in July to assist customers in placing their orders and coordinating deliveries after the grand launching event.

The BAIC BJ40 Plus is equipped with a powerful 2,000 cc turbocharged engine, providing both off-road performance and European comfort features tailored to market demands. The automatic transmission is an 8-speed ZF Friedrichshafen gearbox with Electronic Transfer Case drive system and Center Differential Lock from Borg-Warner. The 4×4 drivetrain delivers 221 Hp and 380 Nm of torque, suitable for off-road enthusiasts and adventurous consumers.

Meanwhile, the BAIC X55 offers a unique and fashionable appearance without compromising on modern design elements to cater to current market trends. This modern medium SUV can accommodate up to 5 passengers and is powered by a MAGIC-CORE 1,500 cc engine developed in collaboration with META Engineering from Germany. The 1,500 cc turbocharged engine combined with a 7-Speed DCT transmission delivers 185 Hp and 305 Nm of torque, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.8 seconds.

BAIC’s entry into the Indonesian automotive market with the BAIC BJ40 Plus and BAIC X55 II reflects the company’s commitment to meeting diverse consumer needs. The presence of the Chinese manufacturer in Indonesia is expected to contribute positively to the automotive industry, with BAIC poised to strengthen its market position in the coming years.

BAIC, a key brand under Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd., has established partnerships with leading automotive manufacturers worldwide, such as Beijing-Benz and Beijing-Hyundai, positioning itself as a prominent player in the global automotive industry.
