The National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN) is pushing for the integration of nutrition education into the national school curriculum to create a healthier and more competitive generation of Indonesians. Ikeu Tanziha, a member of BGN’s Nutrition Expert Council, highlighted the importance of structured nutrition education in schools for a better understanding of nutrition from an early age. The proposed curriculum aims to cover topics such as basic nutritional concepts, food groups, the role of nutrients, and the effects of unhealthy eating habits.
Additionally, nutrition education in schools will raise awareness about the significance of a balanced diet, help prevent diet-related illnesses, and equip students with practical skills like cooking and gardening. BGN believes that integrating nutrition education into the curriculum will strengthen the relationship between schools, families, and communities, promoting the message of balanced nutrition throughout society.
By implementing nutrition education, BGN hopes to support disease prevention efforts, improve the overall quality of life, and contribute to the Golden Generation 2045 vision for Indonesia. The agency has already launched various educational initiatives, including social media outreach and promotional videos for the Free Nutritious Meals Program. BGN calls on all stakeholders to support the integration of nutrition education in schools to ensure the program’s success and impact on society.
